The varsity Big Foot Esports Smash Brothers team consisting of Troy Collins, Elijah Laing, Cody Pruessing, Conner Pruessing, Austin Kooyenga and Elijah Liptow competed at the state competition on Saturday, December 2, at Lakeland University. The team had a regular season record of 6-1 and competed against teams all across the state.
Based on their regular season record, they then competed in two playoff games to qualify for State. Many of the games were live streamed for spectators at home. There was audience seating for parents, classmates, and family to attend and support their students. Each team "camped" out in between games, talking strategy and practicing. With the season online, this was the first opportunity for students to see their opponents face to face and play side by side. The team came in 3rd place overall, losing to Seymour in the qualifying round.
Cody and Conner Pruessing also qualified to compete as individuals. Cody Pruessing was a top 12 individual player and Conner Pruessing was a top 32 individual player out of over 100 other individuals.
In their next season, the Esports team will be playing Fortnight. Varsity matches are on Tuesdays with practices being as often as they could throughout the week.
